What do I have to offer in terms of service?

While coaching dads is my main focus online, I have over 20 years of experience coaching individuals of all ages and walks of life in-person so please don’t hesitate to contact me if you aren’t a dad.

Some of my experience includes the following:

  • Training seniors 1-on-1 and conducting classes for seniors

  • Teaching physical education to students from kindergarten to grade 12

  • Teaching martial arts classes to those of all ages including those as young as three-years-old

  • Teaching martial arts and fitness seminars

  • Teaching youth how to lift and move correctly for optimal strength and development and injury prevention.

I certainly don’t claim to know everything (be very careful of anyone that claims they do), so if there is something that I am not able to help you with, I will let you know, and will do my best to find someone reputable that can help you with your specific needs.

So what exactly can I offer you in-person?

  • Nutrition coaching

  • Fitness coaching (fat-loss, strength training, cardiovascular training and so forth)

  • Grocery store trips

  • Research-based core training based on Dr. Stuart McGill’s work for the general population and for athletes

  • Lower body flexibility and speed improvement (particularly for martial arts kicking)

  • Natural bodybuilding (this means no drugs, period)

  • Lifting biomechanics (learn how to lift and move correctly both in the gym environment and in everyday life in order to prevent low back injury, recover from an injury and improve performance)

  • Seniors programs (strength, balance and general fitness in order to facilitate an independent life as one ages)

  • Low back pain (strategies for figuring out the cause of the pain and movement strategies to avoid further pain and promote healing, all based on Dr. Stuart McGill’s work who is the foremost authority in the world in this area)

  • High performance training for athletes

  • Martial arts coaching based on my background in martial arts (boxing, kickboxing, jeet-kune-do concepts, taekwondo, filipino martial arts and wing-chun kung-fu)

  • Private specialty classes for youth, children and adults (For current and past class offerings click HERE.)

For more details on any of these things please contact me as I would be more than happy to chat with you!

What should you consider before hiring a coach?

The personal training and nutrition coaching industry is highly unregulated. For instance, there are many personal training courses out there that can be completed in several weeks. Do you really want to trust your health to someone with that much experience? All it takes is one wrong lift and you can permanently injure yourself! Would you like to risk herniating a disc in order to save a few dollars? My guess is your answer would be no…

When deciding upon a coach for yourself there are a couple things to keep in mind. Let’s start with education. While having a degree in exercise science doesn’t necessarily make someone a great coach, you can at least be sure that they are dedicated. Pursuing a degree not only requires at least four years of time but also a substantial financial investment. In other words, for someone with a degree, coaching is likely not just a hobby but something that they take seriously. Lastly, it is important that your trainer have some form of certification as most reputable certifications provide insurance and require continuing education in order for the coach to remain certified.

While a formal education is important you should also look at the way in which your coach lives. For example, does your coach practice what they preach? Knowing information from a textbook is one thing but actually putting that information into practice is another (everyone has the information but few put it into practice). Does your coach know what it actually takes to physically put on muscle and increase strength and have they done this successfully? Does your coach understand the emotional struggles of fat-loss because they have undergone this themselves? Does your coach actually understand proper lifting biomechanics and how to prevent lower back injuries? Does your coach actually live a healthy lifestyle and if so, how long have they been doing this?
